The Comsat Angels, an alternative rock and post-punk band from Sheffield, England, were active from 1978 to 1995. Named after a short story by James Graham Ballard, the band released their debut single "Red Planet" in 1979 under Junta Records. This led to a contract with Polydor Records for three albums: Waiting for a Miracle (1980), which included the notable song "Independence Day", Sleep No More (1981), and Fiction (1982). Due to trademark issues in the United States, they were forced to perform under the name The C.S. Angels for their 1982 US tour. After being dropped by Polydor, the band signed with Jive Records and released Land (1983), featuring the single "Will You Stay Tonight", which reached Number 81 in the UK charts. Their subsequent album, 7 Day Weekend (1985), included the song "I'm Falling" used in the film Real Genius. The band then collaborated with Robert Palmer for their Island Records release, Chasing Shadows (1986). For their 1990 album Fire on the Moon, they changed their name to Dream Command due to legal pressures. After this, they reverted to Comsat Angels and released Time Considered as a Helix of Semi-Precious Stones in 1992 under Cherry Red Records (RPM) and Caroline Records in the USA. The band disbanded in 1995.
