Biography
The Candymen, an American pop quintet, formed in 1965 and were active until 1972. The group consisted of guitarists John Rainey Adkins, Barry Bailey, and J.R. Cobb, singer Rodney Justo, drummer Robert Nix, and keyboard player Dean Daughtry. Managed by Dothan, Alabama producer-songwriter Buddy Buie, the band's early career saw them releasing their debut album The Candymen in 1967, which included singles such as âDeep In The Nightâ, âGeorgia Pinesâ and âMovies In My Mindâ. Their second album, The Candymen Bring You Candy Power, was released in 1968. The band often performed as the backing group for Roy Orbison. Their chart singles included âGeorgia Pinesâ (1967) and âWaysâ(1968). Throughout their career, The Candymen were known for their energetic live performances and their role in prefiguring the Atlanta Rhythm Section.
