Beau Coup, an American rock group formed in 1983 in Cleveland, Ohio, emerged from a recording project initially called Pop Opera and included vocalist Tommy Amato, guitarist Mike McGill, and drummer Eric Singer. The project expanded when keyboardist and songwriter Dennis Lewin joined, along with bassist Bill March, drummer Donald Krueger, and Tommy Amatoâs brother Frank Amato. The bandâs breakthrough came with the 1984 Beau Coup EP, whose lead single "Still In My Heart" reached the top ten on Clevelandâs 98.5 WGCL. Subsequent releases include"Somewhere Out In The Night" (1985) and "Sweet Rachel" (1987), the latter of which received airplay on MTV and USA Video Hits and charted at number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1987, the group issued the fullâlength album Born & Raised On Rock & Roll through Amherst Records in the United States and A&M Records in Canada and Europe. Beau Coup disbanded in the early 1990s but has periodically reunited for special performances, including a 2011 memorial service at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honoring critic Jane Scott.
