Biography

David Dean Castle was an American singer, songwriter, and composer born on 28 November 1952 in Overton, Texas. He moved to Hollywood and worked as a staff writer for United Artists Music Publishing. His songwriting career included credits for the artists Helen Reddy and The Lettermen (1975). Castle achieved professional recognition as the first artist signed to the label Parachute Records (1977). He released the debut studio recording Castle in the Sky (1977). The track "Ten to Eight" (1977) reached number 68 in the United States and was performed on the television program Top of the Pops (1978). His recording career included the track "The Loneliest Man on the Moon" (1978) which reached number 89. Castle achieved professional recognition for the track "Istanbul Blues" (1978) featured on the soundtrack recording for the film Midnight Express. He released the studio recording Love You Forever (1979) produced with the musician Jack Keller. After the label Parachute Records dissolved, he achieved professional recognition for scoring music for television programs including Vicki!, The Jenny Jones Show, and The Whoopi Goldberg Show. His discography included the studio recordings Voice in the Wind (1994) and Music for Your Soul (2006). He released the track "Christmas Every Day" (2015). Castle died on 8 May 2019.
