Baruh Djaki Karyo, known professionally as Tchéky Karyo, was born on October 4, 1953, in Istanbul. He began his career in the late 1970s with theater roles before transitioning to film. His breakthrough came in 1982 when he starred as Petrovic in La Balance, earning a César nomination for Best New Actor. Karyo's music career included two albums, Ce Lien Qui Nous Unit (2006) and Credo (2013), with notable singles like "Elle se balance" (2006). Throughout his acting career, he appeared in numerous films such as L'Ours, Nikita, and Belle et Sébastien. He also had significant roles in international productions including Bad Boys, GoldenEye, and The Patriot: Le Chemin de la liberté. Karyo's versatility extended to television, with appearances in series like Kaamelott and Missing. On October 31st, 2025, Tchéky Karyo died of cancer at the age of 72.
