Biography
Born in Paris on April 7, 1961, guitarist, songwriter and singer Axel Bauer enjoyed success in the 1980s, notably with the hit "Cargo " (1983), adapted a few years later by Roger Daltrey, lead singer of English band The Who. The song also owes its fame to the music video directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, set in a setting inspired by Rainer Werner Fassbinder's film Querelle. After this dazzling debut, the artist continued in this rock-song vein with the albums Les Nouveaux Seigneurs (1987) and Sentinelles (1990). He regained a strong following in 1992 with his second hit, "Ãteins la lumière", then disappeared from the music scene for a few years, before making a comeback alongside Jean-Louis Aubert and Zazie (the duo "à ma place", 2000). He recorded the albums Simple Mortel (1998), Personne N'Est Parfait (2000), Bad Cowboy (2005) and took part in the tours of the Les Enfoirés troupe (2003 to 2006). Following a collaboration with Jean-Pierre Danel, Axel Bauer is a key player in the rock opera Dracula, l'amour est plus fort que la mort (2011). He shares his memories in the autobiography Maintenant tu es seul (2012), released before the album Peaux de Serpent (2013), featuring lyrics by Brigitte Fontaine, Gérard Manset and Jean-Louis Aubert.
