Sydney Loren Bennett, born April 23, 1992, in Los Angeles, is an American singer and songwriter who first appeared with the alternative hipâhop collective Odd Future before coâfounding The Internet in 2011. Growing up in a musical family, Bennett built a home studio at fourteen and began engineering and producing her own tracks. She adopted the stage name Syd from her brother and used it during her time with Odd Future, where she served as DJ and producer, recording many early songs in her home studio known as âThe Trap.â Syd released her first solo single "All About Me" on January 13, 2017, followed by "Body" on January 24, 2017, leading to her debut album Fin on February 3, 2017 under Columbia Records. She issued the EP Always Never Home on September 7, 2017, and her second album Broken Hearts Club on April 8, 2022, a project that evolved from love songs to heartbreak reflections. Collaborations included work with Steveâ¯Lacy, Dean, Lilâ¯Uziâ¯Vert, Zayn, Beyoncé (on "Plastic Off the Sofa" from Renaissance), and Luckyâ¯Daye. In 2026 she announced her third album Beard, scheduled for release on July 17, 2026, with the single "Callinâ". Her output continued to shape contemporary R&B and neoâsoul.
