Swallow the Sun are a Finnish metal band formed by Juha Raivio in 2000 who specialise in atmospheric and melancholic sonics that blend doom metal with melodic death metal. After weathering several lineup changes, the current formation of Mikko Kotamäki (lead vocals), Matti Honkonen (bass), Juuso Raatikainen (drums), and Juho Räihä (rhythm guitar) have maintained a consistent presence on the Finnish charts since the mid-2000s. Hailing from the city of Jyväskylä, the band have become one of Finland's most respected acts within the metal scene, releasing numerous critically acclaimed albums over the course of their career. Among these are the Top 10-charting LPs Ghosts of Loss (2005), Hope (2007), New Moon (2009) and When a Shadow Is Forced into the Light, which rocketed to the top of the Finnish chart in 2019. Swallow the Sun's ninth studio album, the Dan Lancaster-produced Shining, was released in October 2024 through Century Media Records and gave the band their eighth Top 10 album to date.
