Biography

Swahili Blonde is an American experimental musical project formed in 2009 in Los Angeles, California. Founded by Nicole Turley, the initial ensemble included Laena Myers-Ionita, John Taylor, Stella Mozgawa, and Michael Quinn. John Frusciante performed guitar on the group's recordings and appeared with the band at its debut performance on July 10, 2010, at The Echo club. The project released its debut digital single, “Elixor Fixor”, in December 2009, followed by “Dr. Teeth” in March 2010. The debut studio album, Man Meat, appeared in August 2010. Swahili Blonde released a second studio album, Psycho Tropical Ballet Pink, in 2011 and the EPs Covers EP and VAGENDA Vol. 1 in 2012. In 2014, members collaborated on the Kimono Kult project Hiding in the Light. The project's later discography included the albums Deities in Decline (2015) and And Only the Melody Was Real (2016). Drummer Alan Myers performed with the group from 2010 until his death in 2013.
