Biography

Svenn Kristoffer Nyhus, known professionally as Sven Nyhus, was born on May 21, 1932, in Røros Municipality, Norway. He was a violinist and folk musician, the son of construction worker and fiddler Peder Nyhus. Nyhus began his musical journey by following in his father's footsteps, becoming proficient in traditional Norwegian folk music. His recordings include Røros-slåtter (1970) and he performed well-known traditional tunes like "Bergrosa" and "Grimen". Nyhus taught folk music at the Norwegian Academy of Music from 1990 to 2002 and received significant recognition for his contributions to music, including the Spellemannprisen Honorary Award and the Lindeman Prize. Nyhus passed away on May 20, 2023, just one day before his 91st birthday.
