Biography

Susan Cowsill is an American singer, songwriter, and musician who was born as Susan Claire Cowsill in Canton, Ohio, in 1959. She achieved early professional recognition in 1967 as a member of the family band The Cowsills and is famous for being the youngest person involved in a top ten hit and for her squeaky vocal on the track “Hair” (1969). Cowsill debuted on the ensemble's studio recording We Can Fly (1968) and performed her first solo vocal on the track “Ask the Children” (1968). Her backing vocals on the single “Indian Lake” (1968) helped the track reach the Top 10. In 1976, she signed with Warner Bros. Records and released the singles “It Might As Well Rain Until September” (1976) and “I Think of You” (1977). Her discography includes the studio recording Global (1998) with her brothers and the solo recordings Just Believe It (2005) and Lighthouse (2010), the latter of which reflects on losses from Hurricane Katrina. In 2014, she released the studio recording Up on the Chair, Beatrice as a member of the duo the Psycho Sisters. Cowsill has also collaborated as a backing vocalist for artists including Dwight Twilley and Hootie & the Blowfish.
