Sun Caged was a progressive metal band originating in the Netherlands, formed in 1999 by guitarist Marcel Coenen and drummer Dennis Leeflang. The band's early style was experimental, incorporating female vocals, death growls, and melodic elements with a touch of groove. Their debut album, Sun Caged, was released in 2003. Following the release, the lineup underwent significant changes, with Coenen remaining as the sole original member. The band's second album, Artemisia, was released in 2007, and their third album, The Lotus Effect, followed in 2011. All three albums received critical acclaim. Sun Caged performed as support acts for notable bands such as Vanden Plas, Queensrÿche, Spock's Beard, and Fates Warning.
