Biography
Summoning, an Austrian atmospheric black metal band from Vienna, was formed in 1993 by Michael Gregor (Silenius) and Richard Lederer (Protector). Their album, Lugburz, was released in 1995 under Napalm Records. Summoning is known for its extensive use of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth writings in its lyrics. Notable releases include Minas Morgul (1995), Dol Guldur (1997), Stronghold (1999), and Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame (2001). The band released Oath Bound in 2006, followed by a period of inactivity. They returned with Old Mornings Dawn in 2013 and With Doom We Come in 2018. Summoning has consistently maintained that they have no interest in live performances.
