Biography

Los Felinos are a Mexican group formed in Mexico City in 1972 by members of the Maldonado family from Zacapu, Michoacán, and quickly became known for moving easily between grupera, country rock, cumbia, ranchera, rock and roll, and ballad styles. They recorded for Musart as early as 1973 and built a long-running catalog that, over the following decades, included albums such as Morena De Quince Años in 1975, Lápiz Labial in 1992, Soy el Aventurero in 1994, Felinos in 1995, A Bailar Country Rock in 1997, Al Ataque in 1999, and Rumbo a California in 2010. Across that run, Los Felinos became identified with songs such as “Morena,” “Bésame y Llora,” “Jambalaya,” “La Mula Bronca,” “El Venadito,” “El Buey de la Barranca,” and especially “Lápiz Labial,” which remained one of their defining 1990s hits. The group stayed active well into the 2020s, issuing the live EP Felinos Concierto (En Vivo Arena CDMX) in 2021, returning with the studio album Felinos in 2023, and then continuing their catalog with singles such as “Hotel California,” “Arreando La Mula,” “Yo Quiero Quebrarte,” “El Buey de la Barranca,” “El Venadito,” and “De Todo Michoacán (Remastered),” while also maintaining a regular concert presence in Mexico and the U.S.
