Biography
Sudhir Phadke, born Ram Phadke on July 25, 1919, in Kolhapur, India, was a notable singer and composer. He began his musical journey under Vamanrao Padhye and started his career with His Master's Voice in 1941. Joining Prabhat Film Company as a music director in 1946, Phadke composed music for numerous films such as Gokul (1946) and Rukmini Swayamvar (1946). His most celebrated work, Geet Ramayana, a collection of 56 songs based on G.D. Madgulkarâs verses, was broadcast on All India Radio from April 1955 to March 1956 and remains popular today. Phadke also composed music for Hindi films like Bhabhi Ki Chudiyan (1961). His contributions earned him the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi at the 11th National Film Awards. Phadke passed away on July 29, 2002.
