Steve Barta, born on December 25, 1953, is an American jazz pianist and composer. He began his career performing original works as a solo artist and with various ensembles. In the mid-1990s, Barta gained significant recognition with the release of Blue River (1995), an album featuring his Brazilian compositions recorded with Herbie Mann and Jasil Brazz. Throughout his career, Barta has collaborated with numerous notable artists including Al Jarreau, Hubert Laws, Dori Caymmi, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Paulinho da Costa, Ricardo Silveira, Kim Stone, Ricky Sebastian, Lee Trees. He received a Grammy Award nomination for his work on Jumpinâ Jazz Kids, an original storyline and collection of jazz compositions written for jazz ensemble and orchestra, co-written with Mark Oblinger.
