Biography

STANCE PUNKS is a Japanese punk rock band formed in 1998, known for their wild performances and unfiltered attitude. The band originally came together when vocalist TSURU and guitarist Katsuta Kinya met through a band member recruitment ad. They began performing in Tokyo’s underground scene, gaining traction with intense live shows and DIY releases. Their breakthrough came in 2001 with the mini-album STANCE PUNKS, which charted on Oricon’s indie rankings. They continued to rise in popularity with their 2002 debut album STANCE PUNKS and a series of notorious guerrilla performances. The band became a key force in Japan's third punk boom. In 2005, they made their major label debut under Epic Records Japan with the single “No Boy・No Cry” which gained further recognition as the ending theme for the anime Naruto. That year also saw the release of their major debut album HOWLING IDOL~Shinenakatta Dengekiyaro (2005). STANCE PUNKS later embarked on a U.S. tour in 2006, and throughout the years, they released several albums, lineup changes occurred, and their rebellious image remained intact. Celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2023 with the best-of album STANCE PUNKS MANIA2, they released their latest album Cokes in 2024.
