Biography

Hemenway was a Japanese rock band formed by four Berklee College of Music graduates: Isaac (vocals & guitar), Charm (guitar), Ogaching (bass), and Toshi (drums). Charm and Toshi met as roommates during their time at Berklee, while Ogaching had previously played in a band with Toshi. After graduating in 2008, Charm and Isaac formed a songwriting team in Los Angeles. They moved to Japan in 2010, where a chance meeting between Charm and Toshi in Shibuya led to the formation of the band. Hemenway made their major debut on November 2, 2011, with the single "Listen". The band gained attention for blending Western rock influences with Japanese lyrics and began building a fanbase through performances like their first solo concert, Everybody, Listen!, in March 2012 and their appearance at Japan Expo 2012 in France. In 2013, they launched an ambitious project: releasing ten digital singles over ten months, culminating in their debut full-length album The Music on December 25. Among their most notable single is "Escape"(2012), which further showcased their dynamic sound. Despite growing popularity, Hemenway announced their disbandment on March 24, 2014, citing differences in musical direction and individual goals among the members.
