Stacyâ¯Lattisaw, born on 25â¯Novemberâ¯1966 in Washington,â¯D.C., is an American R&B singer whose early exposure to music came from her familyâs musical environment. At age 12 she recorded her debut album Youngâ¯& inâ¯Love for Cotillion, and the following year released thes singles "Jump to the Beat", which reached Number 1 on the Dance Club Songs chart and number 3 on the UK Singles chart, and "Letâ¯Meâ¯Beâ¯Yourâ¯Angel", which reached U.S.â¯Pop numberâ¯21 and U.S.â¯R&B numberâ¯8, marking her entry into the charts. Stacyâ¯Lattisawâs breakthrough continued with the 1981 single "Love â¯on a TwoâWay Street" (U.S.â¯Pop numberâ¯26, U.S.â¯R&B numberâ¯2) and the 1982 hit "Attackâ¯ofâ¯theâ¯Nameâ¯Game" (U.S.â¯R&B numberâ¯14); the latter later sampled by Mariahâ¯Carey on "Heartbreaker". Between 1981 and 1986 she issued five Cotillion releases-Withâ¯You (1981), Sneakin'â¯Out (1982), Sixteen (1983), Perfectâ¯Combination (with Johnnyâ¯Gill, 1984), and I'mâ¯Notâ¯theâ¯Sameâ¯Girl (1985)-and in 1986 signed with Motown, releasing Takeâ¯Meâ¯Allâ¯theâ¯Way (U.S.â¯Pop numberâ¯175, U.S.â¯R&B numberâ¯36). Subsequent albums Personalâ¯Attention (1988) and Whatâ¯Youâ¯Need (1989) saw moderate R&B success, with the single "Whereâ¯Doâ¯Weâ¯Goâ¯fromâ¯Here?" (with Johnnyâ¯Gill) climbing to U.S.â¯R&B Numberâ¯1. After a brief touring career, Stacyâ¯Lattisaw stepped back from the public eye in the early 1990s to focus on family, and later indicated work on an evangelical CD, though no further commercial releases have materialized.
