Dennis Horstmann, known professionally as Special D., was born on September 16, 1980, in Hamburg, Germany. He began his musical journey at age 13 with piano and keyboard lessons, eventually leading a school band as guitarist and keyboarder. His first release came in 2000 under the pseudonym DJ Awaline, collaborating with Tobi Bosch on the trance track "Trancegiving". Special D.'s breakthrough single was "Come With Me", released in March 2003, which topped European charts and earned him the TMF Award for best international dance act in the Netherlands. His debut album Reckless followed in April 2004, featuring notable tracks like "You" with Nathalie Tineo. Special D. continued to release EPs such as Come With Me (2003), Nothing I Won't Do (2004), and Here I Am (2005). He also collaborated under the pseudonym Dickheadz with Andy Richter on tracks like "Suck My Dick", which appeared in the 2004 film Crank 2: High Voltage. Throughout his career, Special D. has been known for his hardstyle performances and has released numerous remixes for artists such as Groove Coverage and Mandy & Randy. He returned in 2024 with "Another Day In Paradise".
