SOPHIA, a visual kei rock band from Japan, made their major debut in 1995. Rapidly rising in popularity, they managed to secure a live performance at the prestigious Nippon Budokan just two years after their debut. The members are Akamatsu Yoshitomo, Kuroyanagi Yoshio, Matsuoka, Mitsuru, Miyako, Keiichi, and Toyota Kazutaka. The band originally formed in Osaka in 1994 and quickly moved to Tokyo after gaining members and releasing their indie album, which sold out promptly. After an extended hiatus beginning in 2013, SOPHIA announced a comeback in 2022, marking a significant return to the music world. Their re-entry into the music scene was highlighted by a comeback live at Nippon Budokan in October 2022, reintroducing their dynamic sound to old and new fans alike. In 2024, SOPHIA celebrated their 30th anniversary with the release of the mini-album Boys and a thematic throwback to their 1995 release, symbolizing a 're-debut.' This special album included a DVD featuring a reissue of their 1995 VHS, blue on blue catering to long-time fans and newcomers.
