Biography
Son 14 is a 14-member son cubano group from Santiago de Cuba formed on November 11, 1978, by Adalberto Ãlvarez and Eduardo 'El Tiburón' Morales. They achieved professional recognition in the Cuban music scene and released their debut studio album, A Bayamo en coche (1980), which featured the title track âA Bayamo en cocheâ (1980). Ãlvarez served as the group's director for six years before departing in 1984 to establish the orchestra Adalberto Ãlvarez y su Son. Their discography includes the studio recordings Son como son (1981), Adalberto Alvarez presenta Son 14 (1981), and Dámelo (1983). They also issued the album CubanÃa (1997) in collaboration with Morales. Their music is characterized by energetic rhythms and traditional son cubano harmonies.
