Something Corporate was formed in 1998 in Laguna Niguel, California, by Andrew McMahon (lead vocals, piano), Josh Partington (lead guitar), Kevin Page (bass), and Brian Ireland (drums). After early demos, the band recorded Ready⦠Break in 2000, which led to a contract with MCA and DriveâThru Records. Their debut EP Audioboxer (2001) featured the single "If You C Jordan", which peaked at number 29 on the Alternative Songs chart. In 2002 the band released Leaving Through the Window, debuting at Number 1 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers and reaching number 101 on the Billboard 200; singles "I Woke Up in a Car" and "Punk Rock Princess" received significant radio play. The followâup album North (2003) entered the Billboard 200 at number 24 and produced the single "Space". After a brief hiatus beginning in 2004, the group reunited in 2009, releasing the greatestâhits compilation Played in Space: The Best of Something Corporate (2010). Subsequent reunions in 2016, 2022, and 2023 saw the original lineup perform at festivals and House of Blues venues, celebrating the twentieth anniversary of North. The band sold over one million records in total and continued to tour, maintaining a presence in the alternative rock scene.
