Maki Fujii formed Soft Ballet in 1987 with Ken Morioka and Ryoichi Endo, and the trio issued the limited single "Tokio Bang!" the same year, marking their first public appearance. After a brief indie period, Soft Ballet signed with Alfa Records in 1989 and released the debut album Earth Born, followed by Document and the miniâalbum 3 [drai] in 1990, each showcasing the membersâ divergent styles. The 1991 release æã¨å¹³å reached the Oricon Topâ¯10, bringing the band national attention and a subsequent contract with Victor Entertainment. In 1992 they issued Million Mirrors and Reiz [Raits], and in 1993 the single "Engaging Universe" became a hit, leading to a UK 12âinch release of "Threshold". The group toured extensively, including a fiveâstop tour with Luna Sea and BuckâTick in 1994. Soft Ballet disbanded on 23â¯Julyâ¯1995 after the album Form and a remix compilation Forms: Remix For Ordinary People; the band released a final compilation titled The Ultimate Best Of Soft Ballet in 1995. After a brief reunion in 2002â2003, the group released Symbiont and Menopause, and disbanded again on 17â¯Decemberâ¯2003; Maki Fujii died on 3â¯Juneâ¯2016.
