Soapkills, formed in Octoberâ¯1997 by Zeidâ¯Hamdan and Yasmineâ¯Hamdan, blended classical Arabic melodies with electronic music. The group's early sound made use of a Roland MCâ303 Groovebox, a sound that would define the group. Their debut album Bater was released in 2001, followed by Cheftak (2002) and Entaâ¯Fen (2005). The duoâs tracks appeared in Lebanese films such as Aâ¯Perfectâ¯Day (2005) and the short Des chaussures? (2006). In 2015, the compilation The Best Of Soapkills consolidated their catalog, while both members pursued solo projects; Yasmineâ¯Hamdan released Yaâ¯Nass and Zeidâ¯Hamdan formed The New Government. The groupâs work was cited as a key influence in Beirutâs alternative music landscape.
