Biography

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, an American experimental rock band was formed in 1999 in Oakland, California. The group's music fused classical, industrial, and art rock themes, often incorporating elaborate stage routines and fictional narratives about dada artists and mathematicians. Their first performance on June 22, 1999, was given to a single banana slug, followed by their debut human audience the next night. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum released several albums including Grand Opening and Closing (2001), Live (2003), Of Natural History (2004), and In Glorious Times (2007). The band's live performances were known for their theatrical elements, featuring puppet shows and homemade instruments. In 2011, the group announced three final shows in California and disbanded that same year. Post-disbandment, former members continued various projects including Free Salamander Exhibit and Rabbit Rabbit Radio. The band reunited in 2023 for a tour.
