Skip Bifferty, formed in early 1966 in Newcastle, England, was an English psychedelic rock band. The group consisted of vocalist Graham Bell, keyboardist Mick Gallagher, bassist Colin Gibson, guitarist John Turnbull, and drummer Tommy Jackman. The band signed with RCA Records and released the singles âOn Loveâ (1967) and âHappy Landâ (1967), followed by its self-titled debut album, Skip Bifferty, in September 1968. The album was preceded by the single âMan in Blackâ (1968), which was produced by Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane. After touring with The Who in October 1968 and appearing in the film Smashing Time, a management dispute ended the group in November 1968. Under the pseudonym Heavy Jelly, with Paul Nichols on drums, the musicians released the single âI Keep Singing That Same Old Songâ in January 1969 before splitting. A compilation album, The Story of Skip Bifferty, was released in 2003.
