Biography

Spirit of John Morgan was a British rock group formed in December 1968, led by keyboardist John Morgan. The band, which included Don Whitaker on guitar, Mick Walker on percussion and vocals, Phil Curtis on bass, and Phil Shutt on drums, gained prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with a unique blend of progressive rock, blues, folk, and pop. Their live performances were notable for incorporating comedy elements. The group released three albums under the Carnaby label: Spirit of John Morgan (1969), Age Machine (1970), and Kaleidoscope (1972). They toured extensively through Britain and Switzerland, including appearances at the London Marquee Club in March 1968 and the Super Pop Festival in Montreux on January 1-2, 1971. John Morgan later settled in Saint-Tropez, performing regularly until his death in 2007.
