The Zakary Thaks were an American garage rock band from Corpus Christi, Texas. Formed in the mid-1960s, they evolved from earlier groups including The Riptides and The Marauders. Their first single for the J-Beck label featured "Bad Girl" paired with a cover of "I Need You" by The Kinks. Released in 1966, it was picked up nationally by Mercury Records, earning them a spot supporting The Yardbirds. The band supported acts such as Jefferson Airplane and the 13th Floor Elevators. By 1968, vocalist Chris Gerniottis briefly left to join another group but returned later. The Zakary Thaks disbanded in the early 1970s. "Bad Girl" was included on compilations such as Pebbles Volume 2 (1979) and Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965â1968 (1998).
