Shaun Escoffery, born Shaun on 20 November 1974 in London, United Kingdom, is a British soul and R&B singer and actor whose career began with the 2001 single "Space Rider" released by Oyster Music, which reached Number 52 on the UK Singles Chart and received regular airplay from BBC Radioâ¯1 DJ Trevor Nelson and the Dreem Teem. In 2002 he followed up with the single "Days Like This", peaking at Number 53, and released his debut album Shaun Escoffery (2002) and the Soulonica remix album (2003). After further releases on Oyster, Shaun Escoffery expanded his profile by performing the national anthem before Lennox Lewisâs 2004 fight against Mike Tyson in Memphis, Tennessee. In 2007 he issued the covers album Move Into Soul, featuring covers of "A Change Is Gonna Come" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and earned a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for his role in the musical Parade; the following year he portrayed Mufasa in a London production of The Lion King. Shaun Escoffery returned to recording in 2014 with In the Red Room, produced by Gil Cang, and released Evergreen in 2016, both yielding singles that entered the UK Airplay Topâ¯30. He followed up with Strong Enough (2020) and has continued his presence in the UK soul scene, while his stage credits included Les Misérables, Smokey Joe's Café, Tommy and Mama I Want to Sing.
