Biography

Born in Tucson, Arizona, on October 17, 1972, Sharon Leal began landing television roles in 1996 before establishing herself as a versatile singer, stage actress, and film star during the 2000s. Following a three-year run on the CBS show Guiding Light from 1996 to 1999, she landed her first role on Broadway, where she starred in a production of Rent. Her television career continued to flourish with roles on shows like Boston Public, Las Vegas, and LAX, but it was her portrayal of Michelle Morris in the 2006 film Dreamgirls that truly elevated her career. The film itself won three Golden Globe Awards, with Sharon Leal receiving nominations of her own from the Asian Excellence Awards, the Critics Choice Association, and the Screen Actors Guild. She also appeared on the movie's Grammy-nominated soundtrack, singing alongside Beyoncé on album highlights like "One Night Only (Disco Version)" and "Hard to Say Goodbye." The record peaked at Number 1 on the Billboard 200. Two years later, Sharon Leal starred in the Samuel L. Jackson film Soul Men and also appeared on the movie's R&B soundtrack, singing "Comfort Me." She continued bouncing between film and television roles throughout the 2010s, earning recurring roles in shows like Supergirl and The Good Doctor, before making her full-length album debut as a solo artist with the 2020 record Leal.
