Biography

Born in Istanbul, Turkey on December 4, 1964, Sertab Erener is a singer and songwriter best known for winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 with “Everyway That I Can.” She became interested in opera and studied at the Istanbul University State Conservatory before continuing at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Discovered and promoted by Turkish pop star Sezen Aksu, Sertab Erener released her debut album, Sakin Ol!, in 1992, which was followed by Lâ'l in 1994. While her subsequent albums- Sertab Gibi (1997), Sertab Erener (1999), and Turuncu (2001) – were successful, she became an international success with the album No Boundaries (2003), which featured her Eurovision-winning song “Everyway That I Can.” She continued her success with albums such as Aşk Ölmez (2005), Painted On Water with Demir Demirkan (2009), Rengârenk (2010), Sade (2013), Kırık Kalpler Albümü (2016), and Ben Yaşarım (2020). Outside of her successful albums, she co-founded the rock group Oceans of Noise with her husband Emre Kula and performed in a stage musical about her career.
