Biography

Born on 6 February 1956 in İzmir, Turkey, singer-songwriter Nazan Öncel made a name for herself penning hits for the likes of Tarkan and İbrahim Tatlıses before becoming a successful solo artist in her own right. She burst into the Turkish music scene in 1978 with her song "Sana Kul Köle Olmuştum," which received heavy airplay on Turkish radio. This led to the release of her debut studio album Yağmur Duası in 1982. In 1991, she released Bir Hadise Var, the first album to only feature songs written by her. This LP propelled her to a greater level of popularity, thanks to hit songs such as "Gitme Kal Bu Şehirde." Two years later, she released Ben Böyle Aşk Görmedim, which featured the hit "Geceler Kara Tren." Later, in 1996, her album Sokak Kızı showcased a rock-inspired sound, with singles "Erkekler de Yanar," "A Bu Hayat," and "Bırak Seveyim Rahat Edeyim" achieving a great deal of success in her native country. Nazan Öncel's discography is extensive, with albums such as Demir Leblebi in 1999 and 7'n Bitirdin in 2006. In 2018, she released two full-length albums, Durum Şarkıları and Ve Nazan Öncel Şarkıları.
