Biography

Selig is a German rock band from Hamburg that was founded in 1992. The band consists of Jan Plewka (vocals), Christian Neander (guitar), Leo Schmidthals (bass) and Stephan "Stoppel" Eggert (drums). Former member is Malte Neumann (keyboard), who was part of the group until 2014. Musically, Selig play in the genre of German rock with influences from grunge and experimental 70s rock. Their self-titled debut album Selig was released in 1994 and reached number 35 in the German album charts. The second album Hier followed in 1995 and entered the charts at number 15. in 1997, the band released the album Blender, which also reached number 15 in the German charts. After splitting up in 1999, Selig returned in 2008 and released the album Und endlich unendlich in 2009, which reached number 5 in the German charts and achieved gold status for the first time. Other successful albums include Von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit (2010, No. 9), Magma (2013, No. 4), Kashmir Karma (2017, No. 19) and Myriaden (2021, No. 8). The band's well-known singles are "Sie hat geschrien" (1994), "Ohne Dich" (1994) and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" (1997), the latter of which reached number 31 in the German singles charts. Selig is awarded the Echo Music Prize in 1995 and receives the Comet in the category "Breakthrough of the Year" in the same year.
