Scruffy the Cat, a roots rock/pop/cowpunk band from Boston, active from 1983 to 1990. Formed by Charlie Chesterman and MacPaul Stanfield, who had previously played together in Iowaâs punk scene, the group included Stephen Fredette, Randall Lee Gibson IV, Stona Fitch, and Burns Stanfield. They signed with Relativity Records in 1986, releasing their first two EPs, High Octane Revival (1986) and Boom Boom Boom Bingo (1987). Their debut album, Tiny Days, was released in 1987 and featured the singles "Never, Never / Time Never Forgets" and "Mybabyshe'sallright", both of which received significant airplay on MTV's 120 Minutes. The band toured extensively with acts like The Replacements and Yo La Tengo before disbanding in 1990. Scruffy the Cat played reunion shows in 2011, and lead singer Charlie Chesterman passed away in November 2013. In 2014, Sony Music released Time Never Forgets - The Anthology ('86-'88), a remastered 38-track collection of Scruffy the Cat's officially released recordings, while Omnivore Recordings issued The Good Goodbye: Unreleased Recordings 1984â1990, a compilation of previously unreleased and rare materials.
