Benjamin Sherman Crothers, known professionally as Scatman Crothers, was born on May 23, 1910, in Terre Haute, Indiana, and was an American actor and musician. His music career included albums such as Rock 'N' Roll With "Scat Man" (1956), 4 A.M. (1960), Comedy Sweepstakes (1961), and Big Ben Sings (1973). In addition to his music, Crothers was known for his acting roles, including Turkle in Vol au-dessus d'un nid de coucou (1975) and Dick Halloran in The Shining (1980), the latter of which earned him a Saturn Award. He also lent his voice to animated characters such as Scat Cat in Les Aristochats. Crothers passed away on November 22, 1986.
