Milky Chance is a German indieârock duo formed in Kassel in 2012 by Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch, who met while completing their Abitur at JacobâGrimmâSchool. Rehbein, a guitarist since age twelve, and Dausch, a bassist, began performing as street musicians across Europe before recording their first single in Rehbeinâs childhood bedroom. The breakthrough came with the YouTube release of "Stolen Dance" in July of 2012, which amassed hundreds of thousands of views and led to the duoâs own record label, which issued their debut album Sadnecessary (2013). The album, featuring singles "Down by the River" and "Flashed Junk Mind", reached number fourteen on the German charts and earned multiple gold and platinum certifications worldwide. In 2014, Sadnecessary entered the U.S. market, debuting at number seventeen on the Billboardâ¯200, and the duo appeared on Jimmyâ¯Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show. Subsequent studio albums-Blossom (2017), Mind the Moon (2019), Living in a Haze (2023)-expanded their sonic palette with collaborations including Jackâ¯Johnson and Tashâ¯Sultana. The 2021 single "Colorado" reached number three on the U.S. Billboard Alternative Airplay chart, and the mixtape Trip Tape (2021) showcased covers and demos. Trip Tape II followed in 2022 and Trip Tape III was released in 2025, which featured the single "Camouflage." Milky Chance has performed at major festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury, and Lollapalooza, and received the European Border Breakers Award (2015) and an Echo award for Best German Act Abroad (2015).
