Biography
San Remo Golden Strings, a studio group from Detroit, Michigan, were formed in 1965. Several members of San Remo Golden Strings were also part of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Motown backing band The Funk Brothers. Their debut single "Hungry for Love" was released in 1965 on Ric-Tic Records, marking their first chart appearance. The song reached number 27 on the US Pop Chart and number three on the US Adult Contemporary Chart. Later that year, they released "I'm Satisfied", which peaked at number 89 on the US Pop Chart. In 1967, their album Hungry for Love was re-released by Motown Records after its initial release on Ric-Tic in 1965. Their second album, Swing, was released under Gordy Records in 1968. In 1971, under the shortened name San Remo Strings, they achieved notable success with "Festival Time", which reached number 39 on the UK Singles Chart and became popular on the UK's northern soul music scene. The track was included on their album Festival Time, released by Tamla Motown in 1967. The group disbanded in 1971. Their compilation album Anthology - Hungry For Love was issued as a two-LP set by Gordy Records in 1973.
