Biography

Samuel Blaser, born July 20, 1981 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, is a trombonist and composer. He began playing the trombone at age nine and studied at the local conservatory, graduating in 2002 with awards including the Benny Golson Prize. Blaser's career took off after participating in the Vienna Art Orchestra and European Radio Big Band, leading to a Fulbright Scholarship for studies at Purchase College Conservatory of Music. He has collaborated extensively with notable artists such as Pierre Favre, Marc Ducret, Oliver Lake, Wallace Roney, and John Hollenbeck. Blaser's discography includes albums like Pieces of Old Sky (2008) and A Mirror to Machaut (2013). In 2019, he received the European Musician Award from the French Jazz Academy and was voted as the number 2 Rising Star Trombone in the Downbeat Critics Poll.
