Biography

Sam Prekop, born on October 18, 1964, in London, England, is an American musician and singer. He grew up in Chicago and studied at the Kansas City Art Institute. His music career began with the formation of Shrimp Boat in 1988, which was active until 1993. Following the disbandment of Shrimp Boat, he co-founded The Sea and Cake with Eric Claridge, Archer Prewitt, and John McEntire. He released his debut solo album Sam Prekop in 1999, produced by Jim O'Rourke. The album featured contributions from Josh Abrams, Chad Taylor, and Archer Prewitt. His subsequent albums included Who's Your New Professor in 2005, Old Punch Card in 2010, The Republic in 2015, and Comma in 2020. He released the collaborative album Sons Of with John McEntire in 2022, before releasing The Sparrow on his own that year. His work incorporated elements of Brazilian pop and modular synthesizer. He released the album Open Close in 2025.
