Saliva are an American hard rock and alternative metal band formed in the Memphis, Tennessee area in 1996 by singer Josey Scott, guitarists Wayne Swinny and Chris D'Abaldo, bassist Dave Novotny and drummer Todd Poole. After reaching the national final of the Recording Academy's Grammy Showcase in 1997, the group released its self-titled debut independently later that year, eventually selling more than 10,000 copies and attracting the attention of Island Records. Paul Crosby replaced Poole on drums before Saliva broke into the mainstream with their major-label debut, Every Six Seconds, in 2001. Combining alternative metal, nu metal and rap-rock, the album produced âYour Disease,â which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance, and âClick Click Boom.â Back into Your System followed in 2002, adding a stronger post-grunge influence, while Survival of the Sickest arrived in 2004. D'Abaldo subsequently left and was replaced by Jonathan Montoya, who appeared on Blood Stained Love Story (2007) and Cinco Diablo (2008) before Saliva continued as a four-piece. After Under Your Skin appeared in 2011, Scott left the band and was replaced by Bobby Amaru. Saliva entered another phase with In It to Win It in 2013 and its revised version Rise Up in 2014. Novotny departed in 2015 and Brad Stewart took over on bass, joining Swinny, Crosby and Amaru for Love, Lies & Therapy in 2016. The harder-edged 10 Lives followed in 2018. Saliva revisited their breakthrough era on the 2021 EP Every Twenty Years, which featured new recordings of material from Every Six Seconds. Crosby left again in 2022 and Sammi Jo Bishop became the band's drummer. Founding guitarist Wayne Swinny died from a brain hemorrhage while Saliva were on tour in March 2023, leaving the group without any of its original members. The band nevertheless completed and released Revelation in September 2023, featuring Swinny's final recordings. Guitarists Josh Kulack and Sebastian LaBar subsequently joined Amaru, Stewart and Bishop in the lineup. Revelation: Retold followed in January 2025, expanding the previous album with new material and guest appearances from Peyton Parrish, Lauren Babic and Candlebox singer Kevin Martin. Saliva continued with a hard-rock version of Michael Jackson's âThey Don't Really Care About Usâ and the singles âHit 'Em Where It Hurtsâ and âToo Broke to Fix.â In 2026 the band released a run of new songs including âCope,â featuring Thousand Foot Krutch's Trevor McNevan, âSadistic Love,â âEdge of a Knifeâ and âLongshot,â featuring Johnny Van Zant. Those tracks fed into Breaking Through, released digitally on August 14, 2026 through Judge & Jury Records, with Saliva continuing as Amaru, Stewart, Bishop, Kulack and LaBar.
