Biography

Séamus Ennis was born on May 5, 1919 in Finglas, Dublin, Ireland. He learned to play the uilleann pipes from his father at age thirteen. In 1942, Séamus Ennis began collecting traditional Irish music for the Irish Folklore Commission. His career took a significant turn when he joined Radio Éireann in 1947, where he presented radio shows and recorded notable musicians like Willie Clancy. He released his first EP, The Ace And Deuce Of Piping, in 1961, followed by several albums including Seoda Ceoil 2 (1969) and Forty Years Of Irish Piping (1977). Séamus Ennis performed at the Newport Folk Festival in 1964. He passed away on October 5, 1982.
