Sadik Hakim, born Argonne Forrest Thornton on July 15, 1919, in Duluth, Minnesota, was an American jazz pianist and composer. He began his musical journey under his grandfatherâs guidance before moving to Chicago. In 1944, tenor saxophonist Ben Webster brought him to New York to join his band. The following year, Hakim recorded with Charlie Parker for Savoy Records and toured with Lester Young from 1946 to 1948. He adopted the name Sadik Hakim in 1947. In the 1950s, he played in Canada with Louis Metcalf, toured with James Moody, and was a member of Buddy Tateâs orchestra. His debut album as a leader was released in 1962 on Charlie Parker Records, shared with Duke Jordan. Around 1966, he moved to Montreal and later toured Europe and Japan, returning to recording as a leader in 1973 with material released on CBC, Progressive, SteepleChase, and Storyville labels. Hakim passed away in New York City on June 20, 1983.
