Biography
Pol Sadi Lallemand, known as Fats Sadi, was a Belgian jazz musician, vocalist, and composer born on October 23, 1927, in Andenne. He started performing at age nine and took up the vibraphone by 1941 after being introduced to jazz through Louis Armstrong. In 1945, Sadi turned professional, touring Europe with the Bob Shots orchestra. In the 1950s, he lived in Paris, playing with orchestras led by Michel Legrand and Aimé Barelli, and at venues like Club Saint-Germain. Sadi participated in Django Reinhardt's final recording session in 1953. During the 1960s, he hosted radio and television shows for RTB. Notable album releases included The Swinging Fats Sadi Combo (1954), Sadi's Vibes (1959), and Mr. Fats Sadi, His Vibes and His Friends (1966). Sadi received the Djangodor award in 1996 and was named European vibraphonist of the year in 1998. He died on February 20, 2009, in Huy.
