Biography
Lyle F. Dedrick, also known as Rusty Dedrick, born on July 12, 1918, in Delevan, New York, was an American jazz trumpeter, arranger, and composer. He began his career in 1938/1939 with Bill Borden and Dick Stabile, followed by collaborations with Red Norvo from 1939 to 1941, Ray McKinley, and Claude Thornhill in 1941/1942. After serving in the US Army during World War II, he rejoined Ray McKinley in 1946 and returned to work with Thornhill in 1946/1947. Dedrick spent much of the late 1940s through the 1960s as a studio musician in New York City, arranging and composing for artists such as Don Elliott, Maxine Sullivan, and Lee Wiley. Notable album releases include Salute to Bunny: Rusty Dedrick Plays Berigan Tunes (1957). He passed away on December 25, 2009, in Summitville, New York.
