Biography
Russell Whyte, known professionally as Rustie, was born on January 4, 1983 in Glasgow, Scotland, and began as a guitarist before purchasing his first decks at fifteen. His first releases were the 2007 EP Jagz the Smack and the 2008 single "Play Doe / Tempered". In 2009, he signed to Warp Records, releasing the EP Sunburst in 2010 and his debut album Glass Swords in 2011, which earned critical acclaim and The Guardian's First Album Award. He followed with the album Green Language (2014) and the album Evenifudontbelieve (2015), the latter featuring the singles "First Mythz" and "Peace Upzzz". Rustie toured globally, performing at festivals such as Bonnaroo and Governors Ball, and collaborated with artists like Dannyâ¯Brown and Redinho. In 2024, he returned with the single "Black Ice Mudra" after a nineâyear hiatus.
