Biography

Rumiko Koyanagi (born July 2, 1952 in Fukuoka Prefecture) is a Japanese artist who built a brilliant career as a singer and actress after graduating at the top of her class from the Takarazuka Revue Company as Rumi Natsukawa. 1971 saw her debut with "Watashi no Shirokamachi" which was a big hit, selling over 1.6 million copies. The following year, she won the Japan Song Award for "Seto no Bride. Together with Mari Amachi and Saori Minami, they were enormously popular as the "New Three Daughters" and led the idol scene in the 1970s. On December 5, 2012, she released the single "Ao Ringo" with lyrics written by Yo Hitoto. The song is a combination of mature adult sexiness and innocence, and her deep singing shines through. As an actress, her versatility is outstanding, as evidenced by the Japan Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, and she has appeared in the Kohaku Uta Gassen for 18 consecutive years. In 2021, after several decades of absence, she made a much-talked-about return to recording with "Midnight, Ranreishin " ( Midnight, Ranreishin ).
