Ruder than You, an American ska band, was founded in 1989 at Penn State University and later relocated to Philadelphia. The group released their debut album Big Step in 1992 by Moon Records, followed by Horny for Ska in 1996. By the mid-1990s, Ruder than You had expanded to a nine-piece lineup and toured extensively, opening for notable acts such as The Skatalites and Steel Pulse. Despite challenges including the demise of Moon Records and the incarceration of lead singer Freddie "3D" Weaver, the band released Philly Stylee in 2005 on their own label, Godâs Ghetto Records. In 2008, they released the EP Godâs Ghetto, marking their first studio endeavor of the decade and notable for being the first American ska-influenced music release on an African record label, Lulu Nyeusi Records.
