Biography
A relatively minor figure in rock history, Ron Wood achieved enviable status through his involvement with The Faces and The Rolling Stones. The Hillingdon native (June 1, 1947), who began his career in the 1960s with The Birds, joined Jagger and Richards' band in 1975, succeeding Mick Taylor. Although not a guitar virtuoso, his versatility and good humor make him a welcome addition to any band. Likewise, although he doesn't have a thundering solo career, Ron Wood regularly releases well-crafted albums. Starting early with 1974's I've Got My Own Album to Do, his solo career includes Now Look (1975), Gimme Some Neck (1979), and Live & Eclectic (2000), to name but a few. On 2010's I Feel Like Playing, Slash, Billy Gibbons, Flea and Bobby Womack cross swords with the legendary Ron Wood. Between recordings and tours with his band, he pays tribute to two major influences on Mad Lad: A Live Tribute to Chuck Berry (2019) and Mr Luck: A Tribute to Jimmy Reed Live at the Royal Albert Hall (2021). In 2025, he releases from his archives the unreleased album Live at Electric Ladyland, captured during a concert at New York's Electric Ladyland Studios on November 2, 1992.
