Roland Kovac, born in 1927 in Vienna, Austria, was a pianist known for his contributions to jazz music. He began learning piano at age six and later studied clarinet. Kovac's early career included performances with the Wiener Sängerknaben and collaborations with Hans Koller, notably performing at the Deutsche Jazzfestival Frankfurt in 1954. Throughout his career, he played with notable musicians such as Lee Konitz and Lars Gullin. He composed for orchestras led by Kurt Edelhagen and the SFB-Tanzorchester, which he directed from 1960 to 1962, and his work extended to film scores such as Ruf aus dem Ãther (1951) and Das Totenschiff (1959). In the early 1970s, Kovac experimented with fusion music. His notable solo album, The Einstein Concerto, was released in 1988. Roland Kovac passed away in 2013 following a skiing accident near St. Moritz (in Samedan).
